Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape Province with its year-round holiday climate boasts a wealth of flora and fauna - including the Big Five - in a malaria free environment. It is known as the land of rolling hills, endless sweeps of rocky coves and sandy beaches, towering mountain ranges and verdant forests.

To the West is the lush Tsitsikamma Forest, to the East the Amatola mountains, in the interior the arid Karoo, while in contrast there is the Indian Ocean coastline, offering epic beaches along the Sunshine and Wild Coasts. The Fish River was the first border between white and black, starting a century of intensive conflict and nine wars.

Home to Nelson Mandela, the province played a very prominent role in South African history, most recently the liberation movement from the former Apartheid system, and today welcomes visitors with open arms – Port Elizabeth, the 'Friendly City', offers the perfect Gateway to the province's splendours: the Nelson Mandela Museum, the Addo Elephant National Park, the Hole in the Wall, the Tsitsikamma National Park, Grahamstown National Arts Festival and Shamwari Private Game Reserve.
