The Garden Route is the gateway to the Eastern Cape with its wild coast beaches and its wildlife filled nature reserves. This stretch of coastline is largely undeveloped providing the visitor with an unparalleled nature and wildlife experience.

The Garden Route is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in South Africa, and is home to the coastal villages of Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and Wildnerness. It is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline imaginable, from verdant lake settings where the setting is so peaceful that the rare African Oystercatcher is able to bred undisturbed on its coastline.

While the Eastern Cape, known as the home of the isixhosa is South Africa’s second largest province. The region is filled with scenic pleasures that range from abundant wildlife reserves, to lush green forests of the Garden Route, and the semi desert of the Karoo.

There are some beautiful wildlife reserves in this gorgeous province from verdant wildlife reserves to arid Karoo landscapes and beautiful coastal reserves, there is something for every safari lover in this province.

You can swish silently above the trees in the Garden Route's forest canopies, or ride ostrich in the ostrich capital of Oudtshoorn or traverse the famous passes constructed by Thomas Baine from the interior to the sea, or borrow through underground tunnels at the Cango Caves.

Your first port of call when touching down on this beautiful stretch on coastline are the gorgeous Garden Route towns of Knysna, Wildnerness, Plettenberg Bay, George and Mossel Bay. From luxury boutique hotels, to quiet honeymoon getaways or weekends away with your friends the Garden Route provides accommodation to suit every style and budget.

When heading further up the coast visitors can visit the towns of Port Elizabeth and East London which serve as the gateway to the Eastern Cape with its beautiful wildlife reserves and safaris.

As if there was not enough on offer in this gorgeous province visitors can also head to South Africa's border and ski at Tiffendell - a favourite winter escape.

The Garden Route is the host of a number of festivals that celebrate food and all its tantalising sensations. In July every year Knysna welcomes visitors from at home and abroad to the Oyster Festival which celebrates this town's rich seafood history and culture. In September Knysna hosts the Gastronomica Food Festival which as its name suggests celebrates food in all of its gastronomical glory.

If this is not enough to entice you to the Garden Route then contemplate truly mouth-watering food in the Eastern Cape at one of the many hotel establishments that provide wonderful cuisine, which can only make your stay in this beautiful province even more memorable. And remember that if you are feeling adventurous this is the home province of the isiXhosa so try some local brew or maybe even some local food.
